International Forum «Ensuring Children's Rights to a Healthy Environment»

CONCEPT NOTE

Rationale and background

World Children's Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare

The celebration of World Children's Day by the UN Member-States provides a unique opportunity to raise public awareness of promoting and protecting children's rights and developing a child-friendly environment around the world through dialogue.

Today, climate change is one of the main challenges of our time, which directly affects the quality of lives, especially young people. Children face heightened and specific risks due to climate change.

Almost every child on earth is exposed to at least one form of climate and environmental challenge, affecting their ability to realize the rights guaranteed to them. The climate crisis, pollution and biodiversity loss are threats that will transform childhood and jeopardize a sustainable future for children and future generations globally.

 

Conference objectives and key issues to be addressed

International Forum will focus on the negative consequences of the climate change on the environment, ensuring the effective implementation of human rights, especially, of the younger generation in this area.

The event will be a good platform for a practical exchange of views on actions taken at the global and national levels to prevent environmental challenges and threats by improving the legislative framework.

Participants

This High-level Forum will bring together Heads of UN agencies, government officials, representatives of international and regional organizations, foreign public funds, the diplomatic corps in Uzbekistan and national institutions as well as civil society actors.

Event format: The Forum will be held in hybrid format.

Date and venue: November 17, 2022, Tashkent.
